One Chicago

Client Power Residential, LLC
Completion Date Spring 2022
Location Chicago, Illinois
Completed by Huen Electric, Inc.

Huen Electric crews are helping transform the Windy City skyline with their buildout work on One Chicago, a near-supertall skyscraper under design-build construction at the corner of Chicago Avenue and State Street in downtown’s River North/Gold Coast neighborhood. Besides the complex logistics that accompany downtown construction sites, crews have been challenged further by the COVID-19 pandemic – specifically, the physical constraints of masking and social distancing that have affected material delivery and vertical transportation.

The 2.1 million-square-foot, mixed-use development encompasses an entire city block and consists of two residential towers – one 574 feet tall (56 floors), the other 969 feet tall (79 floors) – connected by a 10-story podium with four levels of underground parking. The podium features retail, office, and event space with residential units wrapped around the garage, eliminating an exposed parking podium or dark facades on all sides of the complex.

The complex, which topped out mid-summer 2021, is being built through “top down” construction, meaning the permanent structure of the basement was constructed while excavation took place above and below the slab on-grade. Upon completion in 2022, One Chicago will be the city’s sixth tallest building.
